THE PLOT EVER AFTER WAS JUST THE START...
Surely, you remember the fairytales of your childhood. These stories were filled with beautiful princesses, dastardly villains, and knights in shining armor.
What if I told you these stories were real? However, not in the way that you'd think.
Each story exists in its own world, a bubble if you will, where you could live in happiness if you were good. These were places where a street urchin could become a king and true love conquers all. For generations, these lands were separate from each other and us. However, a select few were trusted with the knowledge of these worlds and were charged with maintaining the balance between good and evil. They worked silently and never left any indication to these worlds that they existed, except for the occasional wish granting.
Ten years ago, something drastically changed. A senior blue fairy decided that it was time to bring the worlds together. No one knows exactly why this has happened and even to this day many rumors swirl this event, but the end result is the same. The blue fairy created another world and built the Silver SpringsAcademy for the children of the current heroes and villains. This school would be a place where they could be prepared for their future roles while also being in the company of those who they would one day oppose.
According to the whispers, this was so the heroes and villains could learn to see the good in everyone, but the council whom the fairy had formed had different plans. The universe had a very particular balance and disrupting it too much could have disasterous consequences. With it being too late to destroy the world; they restructured the classes, forcing those who were good away from those who were evil, and discouraged any deviation from the group that the students were assigned to. Any student who fought against these changes were greeted with severe consequences.
That was years ago and the current group of students at the academy have only known these constricting rules. Tensions between heroes and villains are astronomically high. Now it's only a matter of time before they boil over and cause a disaster that none of them are ready to face.
Now it's time for a new happily ever after.

THE GROUPS BASICS
After being accepted, all characters are going to be placed into the same student group for OC posting purposes. For the IC world, students will be placed into one of the following groups based on who their parents were and what they did in the original canon.
GUARDIANS
Out of all the groups on Scepters & Shadows, I personally anticipate this group being the smallest. Guardians here are the children of the people who, as the name suggests, guides or protects the heroes on their quest. However, one stipulation is that they leave saving the day to the heroes themselves. So, I would think characters along the line of The Blue Fairy or Jimmney Cricket would serve as good examples.
For the most part, their classes reflect the Guardians helpful, but an ultimately passive role in the storyline with classes like...
- Magic Mastery
- Wish Granting
- Recognizing when a Hero needs to help themselves
- Boosting Morale
- Speaking in Prophecy
- Teaching a lesson without saying it out loud.
- In addition to other guardian orientated classes as well as core subjects such as Mathematics, Science, English, and etc.
At the moment, there are ## students within this group. Some of them include @namemcname, @namemcname, and @namemcname; just to name a few.
HEROES/HEROINES
In more ways than one, the Heroes are very similar to the royals, but if anything this group has less preparation for their lives beyond the academy. Unlike the royals who will be in charge of kingdoms one day and are getting some training for that, the heroes are only being prepared for the moment where they save their world from some dastardly villain. However, the heroines may be a bit better off than the princesses when it comes to personal empowerment as they are not expected to take the same patronizing classes their counterparts are. As a general rule of thumb, any protagonist that is not royal will be placed into this category, but some good examples would be Robin Hood, Tarzan, and the Incredibles.
For the most part, their classes reflect the expectation that the heroes will save the day, but does little to cover anything beyond this one event.

HERO SUPPORT
Directly opposing the Villain Support, Sidekicks (or Hero Support as they're officially known) are the characters who often are the best friends of the heroes. However, they are rarely the ones to save the day and if they do, they don't get the glory for it in the end. Some good examples of this would be the Seven Dwarfs, Rutt & Tuke, and Ray.
For the most part, their classes reflect the expectation that these sidekicks are meant to be the companions to their heroes/princes/princesses and give no indication of how these students forge their own identity.

PRINCES
Serving as the good guys at Silver Springs, the princes appear to have the most intensive schedule out of all their peers with their physical strength classes favored over others. The academy makes it no secret that they expect this group to be the knights in shining armor and be ready to swoop in at a moment's notice to defeat any villains that threaten a damsel in distress. Now if these kids could stand up to the challenge remains to be seen... Either way in order be considered a part of this group a character must have royal blood, but they do not need to be any sort of heir. Good examples for this group are Philip, Charming, and Eric.
For the most part, their classes reflect the expectation that the princes will not only defeat the villains, but also rescue a princess in the process. Other classes focused on running a country appears to be an afterthought and are poorly organized.

PRINCESSES
If there was any group that would have an issue with the way Silver Springs functions, it would be the Princesses. Their classes are beyond condescending and does not even entertain the basic concept that they are capable of defeating the villains on their own like many of their own mothers had done. Instead, they are expected to be passive in the unfolding of their fates, no matter what is thrown their way. Needless to say, this group will give the academy a lot of pushback in the coming months. Good examples of who the academy wants this group to be are Snow White, Aurora, and Cinderella.
For the most part, their classes reflect the expectation that these girls will not partake in saving the day, but instead that will be left to others.

VILLAINS
Every story needs an antagonist and Silver Springs finds theirs in this group. Figuring since their parents were the worst of the worst, it's little wonder that many of their classes are not overly positive. At the academy, the villains are expected to either have magical abilities, supreme intellect, or some other quality that gives them a leg up on the heroes, but still have some sort of weakness that will see them fall in the end. Good examples for this group include Ursula, Dr. Facilier, and Lady Tremaine.
For the most part, their classes reflect the expectation that these kids will take upon the role of the antagonist and momentarily succeed, before being cast down by the heroes.

VILLAIN SUPPORT
At the bottom of the unofficial hierarchy of the academy, the Villain sidekicks really do have it rough here. They're expected to be of little real use to the group they're supposed to help and if anything they're meant to be a way for the heroes to display how strong they are when they are easily defeated. In their stories, their parents may not have been overly developed and good examples of them would be LeFou, The Stabbington Brothers, and the Huntsman.
For the most part, their classes reflect the expectation that the villain sidekicks are little more than comic relief and are ultimately disposable to the villains at the end of the day.

FAQs AKA QUESTIONS I JUST MADE UP
"So, are you Descendants based?"
- Technically no. Yes, a lot of next gen Disney Rps now are heavily influenced by Descendants and there will undoubtedly be references cropping up every once in a while. But in this world, there is no Isle of the Lost, United States of Auradon, or anything like that. Every canon exists in its own world and the academy is a thing that exists outside of all the known stories that brings them all together. This means that we could have characters who were raised in Medieval England while others from 1930s New Orleans instead of everyone growing up on the same island at the same time. Plus the academy here is heavily focused on having the kids fulfill their parents' roles, unlike Auradon Prep. This means that we are going to have completely different character interactions and motivations than other rps do.
TLDR; A few key elements of Descendants is missing from this RP, meaning that even though we are next gen Disney, we are not considering ourselves based on that universe.
"I really liked [character from descendants], can I make them?"
- Nope. Scepters and Shadows will only accept original characters, not canon characters from movies/shows/books. If you really liked Mal in Descendants, you can make a daughter of Maleficent, but it cannot be the same character.
"Descendants resurrected dead characters, is that also the case here?"- Unfortunately, in most cases, dead characters in the canon material are probably going to be dead in our world too. Some of the villains who had died in their movies, such as Maleficent or the Evil Queen, were only revived in Descendants in order to be put onto the Isle of the Lost. Since we don't have something like that, there was no reason to bring all of them back. Of course, some of these characters could still be alive if there was a Scepter and Shadows lore based way of explaining it, but for the most part, if they're dead in the canon, they're dead for good.
"Are sequels considered canon?"- Since some sequels can be obscure, we're not considering them to be part of the canon. So, if you want Ariel and Eric's kid, there doesn't have to be any mention of Melody. Alternatively, if you want a character to have ties to a sequel, we aren't going to stop you.
"Can I have [an animal pairing]'s kid?"
- For all non-human pairings, the parents have to be able to talk in their movies. (So, from Mulan, we could see Mushu's kid, but not cricket's.) They also have to be physically alive (so no toys or cars) and needless to say, they have to be the same species. Otherwise, it wouldn't make sense that they exist. Some exceptions can be made if it makes canon sense, such as Wreck it Ralph where their code can be spliced together, but these will be handled on a case by case business.
"Students aren't really my thing, can I make a faculty member instead?" - Unfortunately, as of right now playable teachers will conflict with possible plot twists down the road. You can make older, college-aged students instead.
"Is there a discord?- Yes, but at the moment it is only for accepted members and isn't the primary chat for Scepters. After you create your first character and they're approved, you'll be sent an invite link if you want to be part of the Discord.

THE RULES BASICS
- Follow the Proboards Terms of Service. This means that you have to be 13 in order to join us and everything needs to be held to a PG-13 rating. So, language needs to be kept to a minimum and graphic scenes must fade to black.
- Please be respectful towards each other. People and charries don't always get along, I get it, but this does not mean that it excuses creating a hostile OCC environment.
- Don't spam any boards or the cbox.
REGISTRATION
- Even though you do not need to have an OCC account, you will need to have a separate account for each character.
- Also when registering, it would be greatly preferred for tagging purposes if you registered with either just that character's first name or both the first and last name, not an OCC name.
CHARACTER CREATION
- When you first register, you can have up to three characters, no strings attached. However, for a fourth character, everyone must be active (used within the last two weeks) and have 10 IC posts.
- Be mindful of gender and role ratios. Everything's more fun when it's balanced right? So, if a group becomes too large I will probably close that until it becomes evener. (Also just for the record, I won't close anything unless it's three times larger than their opposite group(s). Ex: 9 Villain sidekicks will be closed in favor of boosting the 3 Hero sidekicks, but both will remain open if there are 27 villains.)
- Please only use celebrities for realistic face claims. Some YouTubers/Instagram stars may be allowed on a case by case basis. Also just as a general rule of thumb, let's not use celebs that have already been in an adaptation of the canon story. (So Lily Collins can't be Snow White's kid because of Mirror, Mirror; but she can be Mother Gothel's.) If you need help finding a good fc, stop by the cbox! We'll all be happy to help!
CANON CONSIDERATIONS
- At the moment, we're only accepting children from animated Disney and Pixar movies. Other canons (such as Don Bluth films) will be available in the future, so keep an eye out for that.
- All pairings must be realistic for this AU world. This means that it's HIGHLY unlikely that there are any villain/hero kids running around, especially since each story exists in their own bubble before the kids converge at the academy.
- Magic can be inherited, but don't go overboard. These kids probably won't have full control over any powers and I wouldn't recommend having more than two kids max with powers.
- Try not to repeat parents. Siblings are encouraged though, but please check in with the person who first lay claim to the pairing to make sure that they are okay with another kid being made. If they say no, then you can't make that character.
POSTING
- There is no word count here, just as long as everyone attempts to match what they are given in a thread. If you're trying to stay even and you're still providing enough to work with, it's alright by me. However, this may change in the future.
- Posts should be written in third person as it's easier to read. Also, decorations, such as fancy fonts or images of your character, for IC posts should be kept to a minimum.
- Don't metagame, powerplay, or godmod.
